No cooling in a heat wave
A central system or mini-split that stops in extreme heat is a health risk, not an inconvenience. We diagnose compressors, refrigerant, controls and electrical supply and get cooling back.
Overview
Cooling & Air Conditioning, done right
A New York summer finds every weak spot in a cooling system. The compressor that limped through last season quits on the hottest afternoon. The window units in a rowhouse cannot keep up with a top floor under a black roof. A ductless system drips onto the wall because the line was never pitched right.
Empire Pro NY repairs, maintains and installs the cooling systems that work in this city: central air where there is ductwork, ductless mini-splits where there is not, and heat pumps that cool in July and heat in January. We size the equipment to the actual house, not a rule of thumb, and we install it so it runs quietly, the way it should.
We are licensed and insured, we answer 24/7 when the cooling fails in a heat wave, and estimates are free. If your building needs a permit or your board needs paperwork, we handle it. Our own electricians run the new circuit, so you are not coordinating two contractors.
What we fix
AC not cooling
Low refrigerant, a failed capacitor, a dirty coil or a dead compressor all feel the same from the couch. We diagnose and tell you what it needs.
Unit runs but the house stays warm
Undersized equipment, leaky ducts or a frozen coil. We check airflow and charge and fix the real problem instead of adding refrigerant.
Water leaking from the air handler
A clogged condensate line or a failed pump sends water into ceilings and walls. We clear it, fix the drain and check for damage.
No ductwork, no cooling
Rowhouses, brownstones and prewar apartments were built without ducts. Ductless mini-splits cool them room by room with no major construction.
Old or failing central air
When the system is on its last legs, we size and install a replacement that fits your ducts, your electrical panel and your home.

How it works
- Call or send the formTell us what the system is doing and what kind of equipment you have. Cooling failures in extreme heat are handled 24/7.
- Inspect and measureWe check the equipment, the airflow, the refrigerant charge and the electrical supply. For new systems we measure the rooms and the sun exposure.
- Written options, free estimateYou get a clear price for the repair and, when it is worth considering, for replacement. The decision is yours.
- Install, test, clean upWe install to manufacturer specs, run the system through a full cycle, show you the controls and leave the space clean.
Why Empire Pro NY
Licensed and insured
Refrigerant and electrical work is regulated. Our technicians are licensed and insured, and we pull permits where the city requires them.
24/7 in a heat wave
When the cooling fails and the temperature climbs, that is an emergency for seniors, infants and tenants. We answer and dispatch fast.
Sized to your home
Oversized equipment short-cycles and leaves rooms clammy. Undersized equipment never catches up. We do the math before we quote.
Electricians on the same team
A new condenser or mini-split often needs a new circuit or panel space. Our electricians handle it as part of the same job.
Questions people ask
How much does AC repair or a new system cost?
It depends on the equipment, the size of the home and what the diagnosis shows. We price after we see it and estimates are free.
Can I get central air in a rowhouse or brownstone with no ducts?
Often yes. Ductless mini-splits are the usual answer, and in some homes a compact high-velocity duct system fits in existing walls and closets. We will walk the house and tell you what is realistic.
Why is my AC freezing up?
A frozen coil usually comes from poor airflow, such as a clogged filter or blocked return, or from low refrigerant. Turn the system off to let it thaw and call us so we can find the cause.
Do you handle co-op and condo requirements?
Yes. We provide insurance documents and installation details for boards and managing agents, and we follow building rules for exterior equipment placement.
