Before we arrive
Do these now, in this order
- Shut off the main water valveFor a burst pipe, overflowing fixture or leaking heater, close the main shutoff. In most New York homes it is where the water line enters the basement or the front of the building, often near the meter. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
- Kill the breaker if water is near anything electricalIf water is reaching outlets, appliances, the boiler or the panel itself, switch off the affected breakers or the main, but only if you can reach the panel without standing in water or touching anything wet.
- Do not enter a flooded basement while the power is onStanding water and live electricity can be lethal. If you cannot safely reach the panel from dry ground, stay out and tell us when you call. We will handle it.
- If you smell gas, leave and call from outsideDo not flip switches, light anything or use the phone indoors. Leave the building right away, then call emergency services or the gas utility's emergency line from outside, and call us after that.
- Turn off the boiler or furnace if it is leaking, banging or smells of burningUse the emergency switch, usually a red switch plate at the top of the basement stairs or near the unit. Do not try to relight or reset anything.
- Move what you can and start photosGet valuables, electronics and paper off the floor. Photograph the damage before cleanup begins. Your insurer will want it, and it costs you nothing to have.
If anyone is hurt or there is fire, call emergency services first.
What is happening?
Emergencies we answer
Find the situation that matches yours. Each one links to the service that handles it, and the same call reaches every trade.
- Sewer backup or drains that will not clear Sewage coming up through a basement drain, tub or toilet usually means a blocked house trap or main line, common with older clay laterals and cast-iron stacks. Stop running water anywhere in the house and keep people out of the affected area. Drain Cleaning
- Burst pipe or active leak Frozen supply lines, failed fittings and corroded risers can dump a lot of water quickly. Shut the main, open a low faucet to drain the lines, and call. We repair the break and check for damage behind the wall. Plumbing
- No heat A steam or hot-water boiler that will not fire, radiators that stay cold or a system losing pressure in winter is an emergency, especially with children or older people in the home. Check the emergency switch is on, then call us. Heating
- No cooling in a heat wave A central system or mini-split that stops in extreme heat is a health risk, not an inconvenience. We diagnose compressors, refrigerant, controls and electrical supply and get cooling back. Cooling & Air Conditioning
- Electrical hazard Sparking outlets, a hot or buzzing panel, breakers that keep tripping, flickering across the whole house or a burning smell with no obvious source. Kill the breaker if you can do it safely and call. Older wiring and fuse panels are the usual culprits. Electrical
- Storm or coastal flooding in the house Water in a basement or ground-floor apartment from a storm surge, heavy rain or a backed-up street sewer. Once the water is out, the clock starts on mold and structural damage. We dry, clean and rebuild. Flood Restoration
- Standing water that needs to go now A basement with inches or feet of water from a failed sump, a broken main or a storm. We bring pumps and extraction equipment, remove the water and get to the source. Flood Pumping & Water Removal
- Roof, siding or window storm damage Wind-lifted shingles, a torn flat roof, blown-in windows or siding ripped away, with rain on the way or already coming in. We tarp and board up first, then make permanent repairs. Roofing, Siding & Windows

Emergency questions
Do you really answer at night and on weekends?
Yes. Emergency service is 24/7, holidays included. Call and a person will pick up and dispatch a crew.
What does an emergency call cost?
We price after we see it, even in an emergency. The crew stabilizes the situation, then gives you the estimate for the permanent repair before that work begins. There is no charge for the estimate.
Should I call you or my insurance company first?
Make the house safe and stop the water first, then call us so the damage stops growing. Call your insurer as soon as you can after that. We document the work and the damage so your claim has what it needs.
I rent. Should I call you or my landlord?
Call your landlord or management company first, since they are responsible for the repair. If they want us to handle it, they or you can call and we will coordinate with them directly.
